Here are some recent landscapes I finished.
I started this painting of Grand Marias on the North Shore of Lake Superior some months ago. It was slowly developed, along with a few other paintings. Since oil paint takes time to dry, particularly in the winter when the studio is cold a lot of the time, I always have a number of paintings on the go in various states of progress.
The image I worked from was taken on a late spring trip I took with members of my family to visit extended family on the North Shore. There were many beautiful and inspiring scenes along the way. I loved the variation of colours and shapes in the jumbled and stacked rocks. The way the lake almost blends into the sky in the distance was also intriguing.
This painting was completed just as the winter was ending here. The picturesque barn set against the snow with long morning shadows reaching towards it and the full moon setting overhead in a brilliantly blue sky drew me in.
