Last weekend I painted two new encaustic birds.
The Indigo Bunting is a startlingly iridescent blue bird. I have only seen one once out here, but was so impressed I’m sure I exclaimed out loud! All About Birds does show we’re in its breeding range, so I hope to see one again someday.
In contrast, the Rose-breasted Grosbeaks visit us annually.
This one is a male, who bears the rose colouring from the name. The females and immatures are streaked brown and white with a bold face pattern and enormous bill. They haven’t arrived yet this year, but hopefully will be here soon, along with the Evening Grosbeaks.
