I finished this painting, “Roots Hold Me Close” just before the holidays, but didn’t have time to post it. I have to deliver it soon to CPAWS-OV, since it is being donated for the DRAW (Dumoine River Artists for Wilderness) exhibits coming up.
The title comes partially from the subject matter, as the roots hold a smooth stone or two, a pine cone, and tiny plants, mosses, and lichens. It also is a line from “Spirit of Life” by Carolyn McDade, a beloved song at Unitarian Universalist gatherings. “Roots hold me close, wings set me free, Spirit of life, come to me, come to me.”
Many of the paintings I’ve done for DRAW have been vistas, the excitement of falls, rapids, and rivers. There is so much beauty to be found in small places too; simple scenes at ground level. Watch for another of these coming up soon!
