Resting Canoe, Robinson Lake

When I was at the DRAW Retreat in 2021, a fellow artist and I planned an early morning canoe ride over to the island on Robinson Lake in the Dumoine River. Some friends of hers were paddling the river, camping along the way. She visited with them while I did a quick oil painting study of the scene of our Resting Canoe, Robinson Lake.

Resting Canoe, Robinson Lake, 11x14 I also took photographs, since the fog, light, and rising sun were changing everything rapidly. This painting, “Resting Canoe, Robinson Lake” was recently completed in the studio from the photographs. I left in our lifejackets leaning up against the canoe, but chose to leave out my partner’s water bottle… a giant green plastic jug!

The fog on this lake was so beautiful many mornings. Canoeing out to the island so early before breakfast was a great way to really immerse ourselves in it.

As with all my paintings inspired by the CPAWS-OV Draw Retreat, 20% of the proceeds of a sale of a painting will be donated to CPAWS-OV to support their conservation efforts.

Here are a few photos of Taylor emerging from the fog as she canoed from the launch site over to the beach to pick me up.Taylor emerging from the fog in a canoe Taylor getting closer in the canoe Taylor canoeing over the to beach in the fog Taylor nearing the beach in the canoe Taylor in the canoe near the beach
