This oil painting is called “Take Me Home” since that’s the country road leading to my home.
I love this curve and have painted it a number of times. I probably will again. It’s particularly stunning in the autumn when the trees are colourful. I liked how they were set off nicely here by the grey and cloudy sky. The sky was lightening in the north so it really picked up the colours.
In this one, Round the Bend, sunlight was dappled on the road through the trees and the sky was a softly clouded blue. I like how the road gets lighter at the far curve, leading you on.
Country Road in Autumn also depicts the curve in the fall. Each of these has a slightly different angle, depending on what caught my eye at the time and stopped me to take a photograph. This painting was done some time ago and I find the changes in the treescape quite interesting.
And now, for something quite different, here is Breakthrough. The sun was just breaking through the clouds on this wintry day. No splashes of colour here, but a subdued palette for a different season. The road is just as inviting, in my opinion. John Denver’s song “Country Roads, Take Me Home” comes to mind. It’s “almost heaven” here.
