I am happy to have a landscape painting of mine accepted for Las Laguna Gallery’s online exhibit. This one is Landscapes, running February 4-27, 2021. My friend Eleni Mokas is also in this exhibit with me. It’s fun to participate in a show together, even if it is online.
The piece they selected is Temperance River, Lower Gorge. I completed the painting in 2020 from a photo I took on a trip to the north shore of Lake Superior. The link in this paragraph goes to a blog post I made last year about the painting and the river.
Landscapes are a common theme for paintings and I’m never short on inspiration for them. A painter friend of mine once said my painting style showed specificity, “the quality of belonging or relating uniquely to a particular subject.” That resonated with me, as it is what I’m trying to do. Almost like making a portrait of a place at a particular time.
I sure hope some of us will be able to get back up to the Dumoine this year for the DRAW retreat. It’s a stunning place to paint landscapes. In the meantime, many of us are profiled on the CPAWS-OV website where you can purchase work inspired by the Dumoine.
