A Dog and Her Man

A Dog and Her ManI recently completed this commissioned portrait of a dog and her man. The title was suggested by Mark, who commissioned the painting. He said Molly (the dog) “owns” him more than her “owns” her.

Mark posted this lovely photograph his wife Alexis took of him and Molly. They were watching the first snowfall of winter 2022 near their back door. I loved the wistful, companionable feeling I got from it. The bond between people and dogs is well-known.

There were a few distracting elements in the photograph which I left out of the painting for better focus and clarity. I did leave in a big bottle of glue and quilting batting at the front left corner since these represented Alexis’ work as a quilter and fabric artist.

The portrait “A Dog and Her Man” was picked up with enthusiasm by Mark and Alexis last Sunday. Mark posted it on his social media and it received a lot of praise, including: “Think she nailed it! Great job!” “She caught you Mark! Kudos!!” “Wow! What a great painting! Beautiful!” “Doggone nice painting!” “Holy smoke! That is absolutely incredible!” “She really captured the moment.”

Thank you so much everyone! It was a pleasure to paint this portrait.
