Waterlilies in the Marsh

I worked from a photograph I took last year to make this painting, Waterlilies in the Marsh.Waterlilies in the Marsh

The leaves of the waterlilies ranged in colours through green, yellow, burnt sienna, and purple. I wanted to depict the fact that you could see some stems underwater and also see things floating on the surface.

A glossy final coat helps everything look more wet, like it was in person.

This looks like it’s White Water Lily (Nymphaea odorata), a native species here in Ontario.
