Family Heirloom
This is a very personal piece reflecting some interesting family history. The red braid was handed down to my red-haired Aunt Kay, who handed it down to me, her red-haired niece. In piecing the story together, we confirmed it was from Helen Clarissa Finch Tanner, my great-great grandmother. She died while she was still a red head.
The goldstone jewellery was also given to me by Aunt Kay. It was passed down to her by her Aunt Margie, who got it from her mother, Alice May Tanner. I felt the pieces all belonged together, showing our family links and connections.
The Mother of Songs…
I made a hologram entitled, “The Mother of Songs…” which was shown in Toronto at Interference Gallery in 1992 and Mexico City in 1995 in the net@works exhibition.
The piece was based on my experience being pregnant and giving birth to my first son, Rowan. I had an Artist-in-Residence Award at the Fringe Research studio. The technician worked with me to capture the three pulse holograms used in the artwork.
The holograms were hung on the glass and accompanied by symbols of creation and unity. The pulses used as the background were symbolic of new life and a nod to the type of holography this is.

autARKy
My husband Steev Morgan is also an artist and we sometimes collaborate on work like this installation piece we did together. Shown at El Centro National de las Artes in Mexico City in 1997, it was part of a group exhibit entitled “A Life of Its Own”.
autARKy was a computer and a desktop constructed as a self-sustaining system; planted with seeds and watered automatically. The plants grew and the piece changed dramatically over the months the show was up.

Poster and Book Design
Here are some examples of poster and book cover designs I’ve made.

Photoshop Map Recreation Work for Artist
In 1994, I used an early version of Photoshop 3.0 on our Mac to recreate maps for Janice Gurney‘s art project. Actually, it must have been Photoshop 2.x, since 3.0 came out in September 1994, and this piece was likely made earlier in 1994 since Janice’s “States of Mind” exhibit at the Wynick/Tuck Gallery opened March 4, 1995.
I do recall having to work in separate files, which then had to be stitched or rendered together for the large format posters. Photoshop 3.0 was the first version that brought in Layers (yeah, layers!). The first version of Photoshop for Mac (only) was released in February 1990.
If you want to know what Photoshop was like in 1994, check out this video. Our computer looked very similar 🙂
Portrait Sculptures in Fimo
These are sculptures I made in Fimo for my Dad (1985) and Mom (1988). A couple also commissioned me to do the double-portrait sculpture of the two of them windsailing (1986).
Red Chamois and Black Leather Dress
I made this dress in the spring of 1986 for “Shé Sherie of SkinTite” (as I recorded her name at the time). The soft red chamois leather draped nicely and we liked the idea of leaving the edges natural. Black leather cut into mesh pattern inserts accented the midriff and back.
