Here are the last two paintings of 2025. Lucky One and Lucky Too.

They are small encaustic pieces on circular wood panels. The idea for the pieces started in the summer. In one week, I was lucky enough to find not one, but two four leaf clovers a few days apart. They just seemed to draw my eye, even when surrounded by other clovers in each patch.
I pressed them and considered what to do with them.
In the fall, I was amazed at the deep red maple leaves I saw and thought… how perfect a colour contrast. The dark green against the deep red. I collected and pressed some maple leaves.
They were going to need some “pop” though. I’ve been looking for another project to use the gold leaf on and decided it would work well here. Each piece was done carefully in layers: applying the background, tacking on the leaves, applying medium, fusing, tacking on the clovers, applying medium, fusing, tacking on the gold leaf, applying medium, fusing, and repeated until finished.
These pieces have already found a new home where they’re exhibited together, as makes sense. They belonged together from the beginning, oh lucky one and lucky too.
