I am working on a few paintings of birds I saw this spring. I just finished this Common Loon. It was important to capture some of the water droplets on the bird, as these are deep divers and are often underwater. They can dive up to 160 feet!
In the spring, I often hear a loon calling as it flies overhead in this area. It’s always a treat when our local birds come back for the breeding season.
I am grateful to the talented local photographer Nancy Steed Wilcox for graciously allowing me to work from her photos. This one is cropped slightly from her original to fit a canvas size I had.
